President Nicolás Maduro Led Event with the Great Southern Homeland

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, led an event with the Patria Grande del Sur (Great Southern Homeland) this Thursday, in a context in which he recently announced the delivery of the eponymous project to the Landless Workers’ Movement (MST) of the Federative Republic of Brazil, with the aim of promoting and consolidating greater progress in the national productive sector.

This socio-productive plan, to optimize production, covers more than 180,000 hectares and is located in La Vergareña, in Bolívar state.

It is being implemented with the participation of peasant and indigenous movements, as well as community members, which gives the initiative a heterogeneous and unionist vision.

In context, the Venezuelan head of state and leader of the Landless Workers’ Movement, Joao Pedro Stédile, presented the details of the Great Productive Project of the Great Southern Homeland to the country and the world in 2024, defining it as a national agricultural planting program to promote food security and environmentally friendly production practices.

Similarly, the plan is presented with the vision of the Great Conuco (Small farm), at different scales and throughout the country. The Landless Workers’ Movement, along with Brazilian leaders, is a step forward in shaping this project on Venezuelan and Brazilian lands for food production in both countries.

He is accompanied on this journey by the First Lady, Cilia Flores; the Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez; the Minister of the Presidential Office, Aníbal Coronado; the Minister for Fisheries and Aquaculture and head of the Agrifood, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Motor, Juan Carlos Loyo; and the Minister for Communication and Information, Freddy Ñáñez.

Venezuelan Economic Context:

The Venezuelan President recently emphasized that the country’s new economic model is based on Production, Supply, and Export (PAE), all in order to continue moving forward on the path of building the «perfect formula.»

This new model was established after the impact of the Economic War against all Venezuelans, whose objectives were to weaken the national economy. Currently, the economy features 13 drivers of the Bolivarian Economic Agenda, which are active and in the productive phase, to accelerate and deepen its development in the formation of a comprehensive, national model, articulated with the world and fulfilling three factors: production, supply, and export.
