During a broadcast for the delivery of the Patria Grande del Sur (Great Southern Homeland) Project to the Landless Workers’ Movement of Brazil (MST), in La Vergareña, in Bolívar State, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, activated this agroecological production plan, comprising over 180,000 hectares, to strengthen the country’s production.
The President has described this project as one of the largest rescues in which progress has been made, to activate all productive, cooperative, and humane plans, which «is being led by the alternative peasant movements of South America.»
During this presentation, the Head of State described this project as the biggest for production using agroecological regenerative agriculture methods and organic foods at a large-scale, which will be offered to the people of Venezuela, the people of northern Brazil, and for export to other parts of the world.
It is important to mention that production in La Vergareña will include yams, cassava, plantains, fruits, sugarcane, and pumpkin, as well as animal proteins such as chicken, pork, beef, and their derivatives, in addition to milk and cheese.
In addition, he noted that at least 30,000 hectares of this project have been planned for cultivation, including beans, vegetables, forage sorghum, corn, laying hens, and a large bank of traditional native seeds, as part of a major project of Patria Grande del Sur, along with a seedling nursery to strengthen the entire herborization process.
Finally, the Venezuelan president emphasized that this project is part of one of the key drivers of the Bolivarian Economic Agenda, the Agrifood, Fisheries, and Aquaculture Engine, which is being developed in conjunction with the areas of science, methodology, technical research, and planning.
