President Nicolás Maduro Signed the Law of the International Production Agreement on Alba Agrícola for the Development of the Patria Grande del Sur Project

This Thursday, the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, signed the Law of the Alba Agrícola International Production Agreement for the Development of the Patria Grande del Sur (Great Southern Homeland) Project, which he highlighted as the first project of Alba Agrícola, which «was approved at the December Summit to commemorate the 20th anniversary of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our Americas – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP).»

He also said that in agricultural matters, between ALBA-TCP and the Petrocaribe countries, which are being provided with the national and international legal framework for the Patria Grande del Sur Project, leadership is being handed over to the Landless Movement of Brazil, which has more than 180,000 hectares for the agroecological and regenerative production of organic food.

This is a project born from the internationalist, humanist, supportive, productive, integrative, Bolivarian, and Christian spirit of Commander Chávez, who has been the teacher of Bolívar’s Homeland.

In this regard, the head of state expressed that he wants to be involved 24/7 in the evolution and development of the Patria Grande del Sur project. Therefore, he urged those responsible to combine their experiences and thus not only maintain the focus on the development of the 30,000 hectares of beans, the 20,000 hectares of corn, and others, but also on turning this project into a presidential project.

The development of this project focuses on technical cooperation and the diversification of agri-food trade among member countries and on the importance of promoting investment and improving the agri-food economy of Venezuela and the Caribbean.

Legal Framework of the Project:

This agreement was presented on February 3 by the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, during a virtual meeting with ALBA-TCP member countries. He emphasized the importance of consolidating the AgroAlba program to advance advanced agricultural knowledge and guarantee the production and export of organic foods.

Furthermore, it is important to remember that the National Assembly (AN) approved on February 18 of this year, in its first discussion, the Draft Law Approving the Framework Agreement on Agricultural Cooperation, which was adopted at the 24th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our Americas – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), which complies with the provisions of Article 104 of the Internal Regulations and Debates of the AN.
