The Constitutional President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro Moros, announced this Sunday the activation of the “Oil for Vaccines” program, an initiative aimed at “paying and guaranteeing 100% of the vaccines the country needs”.
During the weekly day for the presentation of the weekly balance of the fight against Covid 19, the national president announced that this proposal will allow us to allocate our main resource to meet the needs of vaccines for the people.
“We have the ships, we have the resources, to allocate oil for vaccines, Venezuela has a part of its production to buy vaccines, without begging anyone, we have dignity and resources to buy our vaccines,” emphasized the head of state.
He also assured that Venezuela maintains all efforts, political, legal and diplomatic to obtain vaccines through the COVAX mechanism, reiterating its participation in said mechanism, which allows access to 20% of the country’s vaccine needs.
In this regard, he indicated that one of the two ways is “for them to release the money they have seized from us and hand it over to PAHO so that the vaccines can arrive through COVAX, and the second way is Oil for vaccines.”
“Venezuela ratifies its participation in the COVAX mechanism. There is a shortage of vaccines in the world, but we continue to do everything possible to vaccinate the Venezuelan people”, added President Maduro.

He added that the country is awaiting the arrival of a new batch of vaccines, which will be destined to initiate immunization to “our grandparents and grandmothers, as well as to people who present some special condition.”
It is worth remembering that the Global Access Fund for Covid-19 Vaccines is an alliance promoted by public and private actors, in order to guarantee equitable access to the vaccines that are developed against the COVID-19 coronavirus in the world.
