Impunity law violates human rights of victims and erases history

The Ombudsman, Tarek William Saab, said on Tuesday that the statement of the Secretary General of the Organization of American States (OAS), Luis Almagro, regarding the law on Criminal Amnesia, is given as a “very personal title,” taking into consideration that the jurisprudence of this body has always been against amnesty laws.
In relation to this law passed in second reading by the right wing bench in the National Assembly (NA), Saab stressed that it legitimates violence as a political tool, and the basic rights of the victims, such as justice, truth, reparation and non-repetition, since the sole purpose of this instrument is to erase the history and self-forgiveness.
“It is a mechanism of impunity that clears up the undergoing legal process, erases the crime and denies the investigations”, detailed the Ombudsman in the program ‘”Las Palestra” (The Board) broadcast by the Informative Channel of RNV.
Regarding his speech in the Parliament regarding the violation of human rights in the Fourth Republic, Saab said at the time there were murders in cold blood without there being anyone deprived of their liberty, and without even a single action on behalf of the families of massacred peoples.
“In these cases such as Yumare and Cantaura are involved the State, the Armed Forces, what happened -for example- in Tumeremo is different, because in there participated common criminals, hired killers, and there are already investigations into the case, there are detainees, we talked to the witnesses and it is even involved a committee of the NA.
