“In the Popular Consultation it was demonstrated how much our democracy has matured. 25 years ago we took a great step by holding the first consultative referendum in our history. Today it fills me with pride and hope to see the people defending what they have built with will,” expressed the president of the Bolivarian Republic, Nicolás Maduro Moros.
Through a video published on his account on the X social network, the head of state highlighted that Commander Hugo Chávez was the great democratizer who handed over Political Power to the people of Venezuela: “The national Consultation was for the first time, uniquely in the world, in which the Consultative Referendum was approved.”
In the audiovisual, Commander Chávez recalls that “on April 25, 1999, for the first time in the history of Venezuela, a president summons the people to make a transcendental decision, so that it is the people who decide whether or not we go to the National Constituent Assembly. We are giving an example to the world of what a democracy that is being born with a good sign of the consensus of the majority consulting the people should be (…) I believe in Venezuelans, we must have only one idea fixed here, between eyebrows and eyebrows compatriots, the idea is Venezuela.”
