The Minister for Foreign Relations, Yván Gil, reiterated before the 61st session of the United Nations Human Rights Council this Monday that Venezuela is the victim of fierce campaigns and multifaceted aggression, characterized by political, economic, and media pressure.
The Chancellor detailed that, during a long period of aggression, the country’s assets were frozen, and that Venezuelan migrants have been subjected to stigmatization, criminalization, and xenophobia.
«Everything began with a narrative built on false assumptions, biased reports, manipulation, and a continuous campaign to present Venezuela as a State that violates human rights. This was not a legal debate, but a political operation,» he stated.
The diplomat recalled that the United Nations General Assembly has frequently adopted resolutions that acknowledge that unilateral coercive measures are contrary to international law.
Likewise, the minister emphasized that the Human Rights Council has warned of the negative effects of these measures regarding the access to health, food, development, and a dignified life for the affected populations, stressing that they should not be used as instruments of political pressure.
