Venezuela registers the largest drug seizure in the hemisphere since 1999

Venezuela registers the highest figure of drug seizure and destruction in the western hemisphere since 1999 up to date, as reported the Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, who highlighted these operational results to refute the narrative of the country as a “narco-state.”

Likewise, he stated in an interview on the “A Pulso” program broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión, that through Venezuelan territory transit less than 5% of the drugs destined for the United States and Europe, while the remaining 95% flows through routes of the Pacific coast and the Paraná River.

The head of the Public Prosecutor’s Office pointed out that international reports place the bulk of the trafficking in countries such as Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Argentina, and Paraguay. Saab emphasized that the Venezuelan reality is far removed from the crises of delicate borders faced by other nations in the region.

The Attorney General asserted that the media discourse against the country sought to justify the use of force, but the data demonstrates a solid institutional commitment to combating drug trafficking mafias.

On the other hand, he pointed out that beyond punitive work, the Public Ministry (Prosecutor’s Office) has been promoting a vision of the State where the guiding principle is absolute peace and the fostering of values. He also indicated that the institution is committed to a return to literature, poetry, drawing, and the debate of ideas in public squares and schools as tools to replace violence.

In this regard, Saab emphasized that his administration seeks to strengthen culture and family values as the main foundation of citizen’s coexistence. He also highlighted that Venezuela is thus reaffirming its jurisdictional sovereignty and its effectiveness in internal security.

Finally, the Attorney General stressed that the country is marching towards a moment of stability. where art and education prevail over chaos, after consolidating a model of society that prioritizes the intellectual and cultural development of its youth in the face of threats from transnational organized crime.
