According to the latest Monitor País (Country Monitor) survey conducted by the Hinterlaces pollster in February, 87% of Venezuelans disagree with the application of economic sanctions by the United States (US) to force the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, out of power. In addition, more than 90% believe that these measures affect all the people and 81% say that those who requested sanctions and blockades should be tried for treason.
The information, released by the company on its Instagram account, indicates that when asked, «Do you agree» or «Do you disagree» with the United States applying economic and financial sanctions on the people to remove President Nicolás Maduro from power?, 87% of those surveyed said they disagreed, with 9% agreeing and 4% not knowing or not answering.
Meanwhile, when asked if they believe that these economic sanctions affect the people or government officials more, 91% said that they affect all people, while only 7% believe that these measures affect state officials more.
Likewise, the survey asked, «Do you think that political leaders who called for sanctions and blockades against the country should be tried for treason?» 81% of those interviewed considered that they should be tried and 12% said they should not.
Monitor País is a national survey by sampling, with quotas by gender, age, locality, socioeconomic level and education, as explains Hinterlaces. It adds that, with 1,200 interviews conducted throughout the country, the survey has a margin of error of 3%.
“The sanctions have meant scarcity, inflation and suffering for Venezuelans. But people do not forget and demand punishment for those who asked for these measures that have worsened the crisis”, as states the pollster in the publication that accompanies the results of the survey.
