Vice President Delcy Rodríguez: Venezuelan extremism celebrates sanctions that harm the people

The Executive Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, spoke about the recent decision not to renew Chevron’s license to operate in the country, attributing this action to Venezuelan «extremism.»

During a review of the Safe and Happy Carnivals 2025 Operation, Rodríguez stated that this decision is a reflection of the failure and decadence of the Venezuelan opposition:

«The extremism believes that it will be able to defeat the people. You saw what happened with Chevron. Who asked for it? The Venezuelan extremism, failed and defeated. A decadent opposition. Machado made a video celebrating, saying that it was a correct decision, according to this perverse criminal, coward, because she lives hidden and does not show her face. (She’s) Dragged. From her hiding place she stuck her head out to say ‘how good that they are harming the people’”, the vice president lashed out.

Likewise, she criticized María Corina Machado, who, according to the official, publicly celebrated the revocation of the license, describing her as a «coward» who only speaks out to applaud actions that negatively affect the Venezuelan people: «She intends to hand over the Essequibo, but it belongs to the Venezuelans and no one else,» emphasized the minister.

The vice president also referred to Marco Rubio as «an enemy of his own country,» arguing that his actions seek to harm the United States without understanding the real impact on Venezuela: «They believe that the impact is against Venezuela, but they do not know that in here there is a people destined to be indestructible,» she stressed.

These are the friendships with Marco Rubio, he believes that he is harming Venezuela, imagine a Secretary of State who is an enemy of his own country. There is the impact that this action will have, they think it is against Venezuela and what they do not know is that here there is an indestructible Venezuelan people destined for happiness, development and guaranteeing their natural resources”, said Rodríguez.

In this sense, she recalled that Chevron has operated in Venezuela for more than 100 years, and questioned whether this decision can be considered positive for the country: “Put your hand on your heart, good Venezuelans, and let someone say that this is positive for Venezuela”, she urged.

In addition, she announced the activation of the Plan for Absolute Productive Independence, ensuring that hydrocarbon activity and economic independence will not stop despite the sanctions imposed by external actors.

Rodríguez concluded her speech by reaffirming the government’s commitment to the Venezuelan people and its determination to defend the country’s natural resources.
