UN recognizes cooperation of Venezuela in the dismantling of cocaine laboratories

According to the recent World Drug Report 2019 of the United Nations (UN), Venezuela is classified as a cooperating country in the dismantling of clandestine laboratories that manufacture cocaine hydrochloride, as reported on Friday the head of the National Anti-Drug Office (ONA), Alberto Matheus.
In the course of a radio interview on the program “Al Aire” (On Air), broadcast by VTV, the head of the ONA highlighted that the UN report published on Thursday, June 26, places the country among the five nations that report the most of drug seizures, reported the Ministry of the Interior, Justice and Peace in a press release.
The official stressed that Venezuelan surveillance has forced drug producing countries such as Colombia to implement other modalities. They use submersibles across the Pacific Ocean to transport large quantities of drugs, geographic space with which Venezuela does not border, and which is identified as the largest route for the transport of narcotic substances.
Matheus denounced the United States Government (USA) to allow the Pacific Ocean to be the fundamental route in the shipment of drugs to its territory.
The head of the ONA highlighted the report that the US has increased marijuana consumption by 60%, and coincidentally the latest seizings in the country have been large caches of this controlled herb, as were 182.77 kilograms seized this week in Anzoátegui state.
He warned that the neighboring country increased the growth of hectares of crops for the drug. It went from 45,000 hectares in 2013 to 117,000 in 2019, and has 70% of world production, says Matheus.
On the world drug trade, the also brigadier general warned of Venezuela’s exposure to the border with Brazil, which is the largest drug user in South America and serves as a platform for Ecuadorian, Bolivian organizations to transfer substances illegally to South Africa and Europe.
However, Matheus stressed that Venezuela has tripled the seizing of drugs since 2005, just with the suspension of the agreements of the country with the anti-drug organization of the US DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration).
In the first five months of the current year, Venezuelan security agencies have seized six tons of cocaine and 1.9 tons of marijuana. The most important seizure at the time occurred on May 16 in Táchira where they found 1,336 marihuana blocks.
They have also confiscated 46 tons of controlled chemical substances used for the production of drugs.
