The Chief of the General Staff of the Strategic Operational Command of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces (CEOFANB), Remigio Ceballos, urged this Monday to strengthen the media for the defense of sovereignty and independence.
During a videoconference carried out by the International Communications University, Ceballos said the media plays a fundamental role at the moment, when a media campaign against Venezuela is being carried out.
«The call is to strengthen a truthful and effective communication that goes against domination, on the fight against colonization. We in Venezuela are free and independent, the media must strengthen the sovereignty of the nation, freedom, the independence of the nation», he said during the videoconference.
«To strengthen our means of communication in order to defend the sovereignty of the nations», added the head of CEOFANB.
During the videoconference – broadcast on YouTube – Ceballos referred to the false news that have been promoted against Venezuela, including a «supposed threat» against the Iranian ships that recently arrived in the nation to solve the situation on fuel that was registered in the country, due to coercive measures imposed by the US:
«Today, more than ever, fake news have deceived the people, the peoples of the world», stressed the member of the military corps.
This campaign has grown stronger since the first cases of Covid-19 coronavirus were detected in Venezuela, and the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, allowed the return of Venezuelans who were abroad, despite the consequences that could generate an increase in cases.
«Since January we have received more than 300,000 Venezuelans. Since the alarm process began, we have received more than 90,000 Venezuelans», he said.
Other of the campaigns that were generated was the cessation of operations of DirecTV – last May -, after the sanctions against Venezuela.
«The intention of the sanctions is to break with the possibility for the leader to broadcast his message through the media (… It is not only to carry the dominant, colonizing message, it is to seize resources and to promote that technological development in the world», he stressed.
