With the publication in the Official Gazette of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, formally came into force the Amnesty Law for Democratic Coexistence.
This administrative step seals the institutional commitment after the legislative advance achieved at the end of this week.
This legal instrument was unanimously approved in an ordinary session that stood out for the cessation of the usual diatribes; parliamentarians from all political groups raised their hands in favor of this text, qualifying it as an “indispensable step for social peace.”
The total consensus in the Federal Legislative Palace sends a signal of political détente that has not been seen in the country in recent years.
The Law has as its central purpose the pardon of violent acts under specific conditions, in order to promote national reconciliation. Its most relevant points include; Cessation of restrictive measures, political and civil reintegration, justice and reparation of damages.
After its appearance in the Official Gazette, the Judiciary Branch, through the Supreme Court of Justice (TSJ) and the Public Ministry, must initiate the ex officio procedures to execute the release orders or the closure of administrative and criminal files according to what is dictated by the new law.
“The unanimity achieved in the National Assembly is the foundation of this law. Today, with its official publication, the country begins a stage of much needed decompression”, affirmed spokespersons for the Commission of Interior Politics.
