President Nicolás Maduro activates Pharmaceutical Engine and closes 1st International Seminar on Sustainable Pharmacy

With the firm commitment to developing new methods to guarantee the Venezuelan people the right to a «science for life,» the President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, activates the Pharmaceutical Engine and leads the closing of the 1st International Seminar on Sustainable Pharmacy, linked to the eighth Engine of the Bolivarian Economic Agenda.

This First International Seminar on Sustainable Pharmacy was inaugurated by Gabriela Jiménez, Vice President for the Science, Technology, Education, and Health Sector, who a few days earlier offered crucial data on the Venezuelan pharmaceutical industry, detailing that it currently employs more than 30,000 Venezuelan workers, including 5,000 specialists and engineers in technical areas such as drug formulation and quality and stability studies.

This meeting also aims to find solutions to the environmental impacts caused by pharmaceutical production in Venezuela, such as the fact that 70% of the active ingredients used to synthesize paracetamol come from the petrochemical industry.

It is important to mention that the goal is also to develop a national policy in line with current technological advances, thus linking it to Mother Earth.

Prior to this activity, were held several roundtable discussions with the participation of Venezuelan authorities and national and international experts in the field.

They analyzed the environmental impact of medicines, biotechnological tools for sustainable production, and the ecological effects of pharmaceuticals, among other topics, and then shared their findings with companies involved in the industry.

Representatives from at least 120 countries attended this event to discuss the aforementioned points. Therefore, four presentations were given to provide a broader overview of the actions to be taken.
