The revolutionary leader Diosdado Cabello, one of the combatants of the civic-military rebellion of February 4, 1992, claimed the 4F (FEB-04) as the movement that rose up against those who governed the country at that time: The Yankee imperialism.
“We never said ‘I didn’t do it’. On the contrary, we claim that on February 4 we did it with a conscience. We rose up against those who governed this country and how they governed. We rose up against those who governed those who governed this country, that is, imperialism,» said Cabello in his speech during the act commemorating the Day of National Dignity and 33 years of the 4F rebellion, held at the Cuartel de la Montaña, (Mountain Barracks) in the 23 de Enero parish in Caracas.
In his reflections, he said: «When we tell the story of February 4, we are telling the story of a free, sovereign and independent country, so honor to whom honor is due: Hugo Chávez.»
Cabello recalled anecdotes from 33 years ago, including the persecutions of the then Government against the families of the combatants. In context, he recalled that the 4F was preceded by February 27, 1989 when the armed force was used to mask the people.
“While he was in prison, the people began to repeat Chavez’s ‘for now” phrase, and a few months later, there was the rebellion of November 27 when a little more people began to come out. Honor to the martyred rebels, to those who have left and to their families”, he said.
Once Chavez was released, he traveled the country until he was elected President for the first time in 1998 to refound the country and among the reconstructions he made, Cabello highlighted the civil-military union in favor of national development.
“Chavez does not inspire us, he gives us strength, he commits us and 33 years later we have a country because this artisan people together with a leader began to mend the country that today stands before the world as the political vanguard of a model that puts the human being first”, he emphasized.
Cabello called for maintaining national unity for the defense of sovereignty, in the face of attacks that will not cease: «We must stand united and loyal amidst the siege,» he said.
