A 6.9 magnitude earthquake shook a large part of Venezuela

The Minister for Interior, Justice and Peace, Néstor Reverol, reported on Tuesday that was generated an 6.9 magnitude earthquake at 5 kilometers east of Yaguaraparo, Sucre state.

He explained that the quake had a depth of 31.6 km and was felt in Nueva Esparta, Monagas, Bolívar, Delta Amacuro, Aragua, Carabobo states, as well as the Capital District.

There is no report of any human victims, however there was a 25% inclination in the last 5 floors of the Confinanzas Tower (also known as Torre de David), located in Caracas.

Reverol indicated that all the equipment of the Risk Management system, Civil Protection and the entire system of attention and prevention of emergency and disasters, with more than 20,000 employees deployed, has been activated to evaluate the possible damages.

He stressed that the 0800-PCIVIL1 and VEN911 toll-free phone lines are activated 24 hours a day throughout the country, in order to report any eventuality.

The minister added the call to the Venezuelan population to remain calm.

In a telephone contact with VTV, the Governor of Delta Amacuro state, Lizeta Hernández, informed that in this entity no material or human damages were registered.

Likewise, in Sucre an evaluation of the damages was made and, so far, it does not register serious damages in infrastructure, nor human victims, said Edwin Rojas.
