Migration prioritized at Extraordinary Summit of Heads of State and Government of ALBA-TCP

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, led this Monday the 12th Extraordinary Summit with the countries of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our Americas – People’s Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), with the aim of advancing the ALBA struggle agenda, including the defense of the sovereignty and rights of the peoples of Latin America and the Caribbean.

During the – telematic – meeting, the National President highlighted that the integration and complementarity organization prioritized the issue of respect for Human Rights, based on a dignified treatment of migrants from Latin America, in the face of the decision and action of the United States Government that threatens the integrity of the affected population:

Firstly, we addressed the issue of migration and respect for the human rights and dignity of migrant populations (…) We will coordinate actions to demand respect for migrants from our countries, their human and labor rights and facilitate their dignified return, if applicable”, said the head of State.

In this context, he presented the proposal of the ALBA-TCP Bank to establish a credit system for the productive reintegration of migrant entrepreneurs, which would have an initial fund of 10 million dollars based on the revolving fund that would allow this situation to be addressed in part.

In addition to the issue of dignified and humane treatment of migrants, he presented the proposal for the countries that make up the integration mechanism to coordinate efforts to dismount, dismantle and end criminal organizations that are dedicated to human trafficking:

Another issue discussed with the US government is human trafficking at the hands of organizations so-called “Coyotes”. Through our investigations, we hope that together with ALBA-TCP, we can raise this demand to the governments involved in the issue, coordinating our security agencies to dismantle, capture and destroy these human trafficking organizations, all linked to the extremist opposition in Venezuela,» he said.
