Maduro: Exercising permanent participation is our defense of Democracy

During his participation in the World Journey in Defense of Democracy and Truth in Venezuela, organized by the International Secretary of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, assured that “only the Venezuelan people is the owner and guarantor of our life and democracy”.

The activity, developed through videoconference, allowed the Head of State to emphasize that democracy in Venezuela has a permanent, participatory, leading and direct nature.

Our greatest defense of democracy is to exercise it, it is to exercise participation, leadership in a permanent way. Democracy can not only be measured with elections, but it must be measured according to the level of real empowerment of the common citizen, the real power that the social sectors have, that the people have, their constitutional rights, and in Venezuela we have advanced in a direct democracy, a real and communal democracy”, he insisted.

He added that “Venezuela has been fighting an intense battle against aggression, the siege, against the lies of the US imperial power and its direct allies, the world and continental right, who validate their speech against our revolutions so that the empire comes and shoots their sanctions, their threats and their cruel policies against our noble struggling peoples”.

In this regard, he pointed out that “all that alliance that is being provoked around a permanent campaign, as never before had been done, in radio, press, television, on all social networks, is a campaign against the development of sovereign political processes such as the case of Venezuela”.

More power to the people:

In this context, the national president pointed out that one of the defense mechanisms of the sovereign homeland is the strengthening of power for the people:

(At the) National Parliament, two fundamental laws are being discussed that are going to give more power to the communities, to the citizen: the Law that is going to create communal cities, that is going to give them great a power of self-government, of functioning of direct democracy, and a second Law of the Communal Parliament, which will establish the power of the communal Parliament from the base”, he indicated.

Likewise, he highlighted the strengthening of institutions in all areas of national life: “we have guaranteed peace, stability and the functioning of the country, that is only possible by strong, real, existing powerful democratic institutions, we also permanently have the renewal of the Public Powers elected by the people, we are going to the 29th election in 21 years”, he pointed out.
