President Nicolás Maduro inaugurates 17th FILVEN-2021

The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, inaugurated this Thursday the 17th International Book Fair of Venezuela – FILVEN 2021, an event that will run until next Sunday, November 14, on the occasion of the Bicentennial of the Battle of Carabobo, under the motto “Leer Independiza” (To read makes you independent).

The 17th International Book Fair of Venezuela takes place in the spaces of the Federal Legislative Palace, the Bolivarian Museum and the branch of Librerías del Sur “Orlando Araujo”, located on the Gradillas corner in Caracas.

Upon arrival at the headquarters of the National Assembly, accompanied by the First Combatant Woman Cilia Flores, the Minister for Culture Ernesto Villegas and the president of the National Book Center Raúl Cazal, the national leader announced that during FILVEN 2021 there will be presented and baptized 100 works and books published in the last year in Venezuela.

In this edition, FILVEN 2021 will have some 600 face-to-face activities, under biosafety measures due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The guest of honor is the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, which will present its various authors, history and milenary culture to the Venezuelan public. Likewise, it will have the participation of exponents from Argentina, Cuba, Spain, Mexico and Peru.

FILVEN 2021 pays tribute to the remembered journalist, politician and writer José Vicente Rangel, and to the historian, philosopher and essayist Vladimir Acosta.

Among the central activities of the 17th International Book Fair are the Bicentennial Reading Forum; the 3rd Colloquium on Children’s and Young People’s Literature; the 2nd International Seminar of Narrators: fictions and realities of literature; the 2nd Seminar for Young Storytellers; the 3rd Meeting of Reading Trainers and Mediators; the Forum Against the Imperialist Blockade, the Meeting of digital publishers and the Disabilities without Barriers discussion.

Within the framework of FILVEN 2021, the 6th Bienal del Sur (South Biennal) will also take place and the National Book Prize and will be awarded the international prizes for Literature “Rómulo Gallegos”, for Essay “Mariano Picón Salas” and for Novel “Carlos Noguera”.
