Venezuela confirms six new cases of coronavirus

The Executive Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, confirmed on Tuesday six new cases of Covid-19 coronavirus, which brings the total number of infected in the country to 367.

In statements from Miraflores Palace, Rodríguez explained that two of the cases were registered in Bolívar state, and four cases are registered in Nueva Esparta state.

She indicated that, of the 367 Covid 19 cases that the country has so far, “a number is confirmed that should call us to reflection, due to the focus of the baseball academy -in Nueva Esparta state- which already reaches a total of 49 positive cases, as well as the focus of the Coast Guard, which reaches 48 positive cases and derives from contact with the Academy”, explained the Executive Vice President.

“When we see the number of cases in Nueva Esparta state, we find that, out of a total of 116 positive cases, representing 50% of the total that Venezuela has, it is due to the negligence and irresponsibility of just 3 people who traveled abroad and did not go through the controls agreed upon returning to the country” stated Rodríguez.

Likewise, she reported that the National Government has carried out a total of 490,851 screening tests for the coronavirus, which represents a total of 16,362 tests per million inhabitants.

In this sense, she indicated that Venezuela will continue to apply the methodologies promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), who highlight the massive application to go and search for cases – through house by house visits – in order to quickly detect possible Covid-19 cases.
