Venezuela receives new shipment of Russian vaccines and antiviral drug

Venezuela received 50,000 doses of the Sputnik V vaccine and 1 million tablets of the Favipiravir antiviral drug, in the early morning of April 15, 2021.

The shipment from the Russian Federation corresponds to the second dose of the vaccine with the most effectiveness against Covid-19.

The Minister of People’s Power for Health, Carlos Alvarado, reported that the vaccines, “are intended for health personnel and the elderly, also for firefighters, civil protection and oxygen transport personnel, who are highly exposed to the virus”.

It is important to note that the antiviral will be given immediately to 25,000 patients, not only in moderate condition, but also to mild cases, in order to prevent its progression.

Despite the blockade, economic difficulties and unilateral coercive measures, Venezuela, through the alliances built by Commander Chávez, obtains vaccines and medicines for care, the goal this year is to vaccinate 70 percent of the population in order to cut the chain of transmission and lower the incidence of the pandemic.
