Rodríguez: We are dialogue people and we are ready to reach an agreement with the opposition

“We are a people of dialogue, of peace. We are ready to reach an agreement with the sectors of the Venezuelan opposition that are here today at this round table in the Dominican Republic. ”

This was stated this Monday by the Vice President for Culture, Tourism and Communication, Jorge Rodriguez upon his arrival at the Foreign Ministry of the Dominican Republic in Santo Domingo.

“I think we should remain optimistic about the development of this dialogue table. We have been for some time very close to reaching an agreement”, he said.

Rodríguez heads the delegation of the Bolivarian Government of Venezuela that will participate in a new round table with representatives of the opposition, with a view to finalizing the signing of a political agreement of peace and coexistence.

In a short statement, the Venezuelan official reiterated the will of the Government of President Nicolás Maduro that the internal affairs of the country are to be solved only by Venezuelans.

“We do not tolerate, we have not tolerated nor will we tolerate coarse interference from any country in matters that only Venezuela must resolve”, he emphasized.

The meeting in Santo Domingo, has the support of the Dominican President, Danilo Medina, and the former president of the Spanish Government, José Luis Zapatero, among other international companions.

The Dominican delegation also received the opposition delegation formed by Julio Borges, Luis Aquiles Moreno, Luis Carlos Padilla, Simon Calzadilla, Manuel Rosales and Enrique Márquez.

In the last meeting between January 11 and 13 in the Dominican Republic, both delegations were on the verge of signing the final document that contemplates the holding of presidential elections in the first semester of 2018. On this point the National Constituent Assembly approved the 23rd of the current month the realization of the elections in the first quarter of this year.

On the agenda are included the electoral guarantees, observation in the elections, creation of a social and economic commission, commitment for the National Assembly to come out of contempt and recognition of the ANC

Likewise, in the draft of the agreement it was agreed that the opposition would repudiate the economic and financial sanctions that the Government of the United States and its international allies have established against the Venezuelan people.
