President Maduro: Honor and glory to the fallen of April 11, 2002

On the occasion of the 19th anniversary of the coup d’état against the government of Commander Hugo Chávez Frías, President Nicolás Maduro paid tribute to the men and women who fell during the April coup against Venezuelan democracy: “Honor and glory to the martyrs and fallen 19 years ago in the coup d’état of April 11 and 12 and the Revolution of April 13 and 14, 2002”.

Reflecting on the significance of those days, he affirmed that “the April Revolution was a demonstration of the power of the Venezuelan people and the Bolivarian Revolution to face any conspiratorial plan”.

He recalled the context and background that framed the events that triggered the coup d’état against Commander Hugo Chávez and the response of the people for the restitution of democracy in less than 48 hours.

The arrival of George W. Bush to the White House meant the onslaught to put an end to the Bolivarian Revolution and assassinate Commander Hugo Chavez.

He recalled that after September 11, 2001, the geopolitical panorama in the region and in the world changed. “It was around those controversial events that George W. Bush declared war to the world, especially to the Bolivarian Revolution and to President Hugo Chávez”.

Likewise, he affirmed that declassified documents from the State Department, the CIA and the White House, “Demonstrate the direct participation of the US, in the execution of the coup d’etat against Commander Chavez”.

“The CTV, the Church and Fedecámaras, supported by the US, conspired to execute the coup d’état of April 11th against Commander Hugo Chávez. There they are, the protagonists of a sad and shameful hour for Venezuela (…) but every 11th will have its 13th (*), every conspiracy and every plot is awaited by the perfect civil-military union of Venezuela,” emphasized President Maduro.

He encouraged the Venezuelan youth to go deeper and learn about history, since in April 2002, the conspiracy of the US empire against the peoples was evidenced and the civil-military union that rescued and returned leader Hugo Chávez to power was consolidated.

“Who were the protagonists of the coup d’état? Where are the protagonists of April 11? What happened to Pedro Carmona Estanga, Carlos Ortega, Alberto Federico Ravell, Julio Borges, Leopoldo López? They are the same today, 19 years later! They could not! The people prevented them from doing so in 2002! They have not been able to, nor will they ever be able to defeat Venezuela, the Homeland of the Liberators!”, he said.

The Head of State made these reflections during the weekly balance of the actions for the prevention, attention and control of COVID-19 in the country.
