President Maduro repudiates EU interventionist statements regarding parliamentary elections

The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, repudiated on Tuesday the interventionist statements made by the European Union (EU) regarding the parliamentary elections, which must be held this year as established by the Constitution.

During a videoconference with the national leadership of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), the Venezuelan head of state said that elections will be held in the country to elect the new members of the National Assembly (AN).

«In Venezuela there will be elections, enough is enough! European Union, get off Venezuela! May the European Union go far away, to hell. In here we demolished years ago all the statues of the colonialists and the murderers, enough of you already!”, emphasized the National President.

In statements broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión, the Venezuelan president explained that elections will be held in the country as mandated by the Constitution of the Republic, and thus he made a call on all the revolutionary political forces to prepare for the upcoming electoral contest.

“Making extreme all Covid-19 biosecurity measures”, he stressed.

Earlier, the EU pointed out that Venezuela needs an “independent and balanced” electoral entity to carry out the parliamentary elections.

“An independent and balanced CNE, as well as fair conditions that allow the participation of political parties and candidates, are the cornerstone of a credible electoral process”, reads a statement by the head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, as quoted by international media.

On June 4, several representatives of opposition parties such as: Soluciones para Venezuela; Cambiemos; Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS); Avanzada Progresista; Comité de Organización Política Electoral Independiente (COPEI) and Esperanza por el Cambio asked the TSJ Constitutional Chamber to declare the legislative omission and appoint new rectors of the National Electoral Council (CNE).

Upon request, the judicial body declared the constitutional omission by the AN, which has been in contempt since 2016, in the appointment of the members of the CNE. By means of a sentence, the instance declared itself competent to hear and resolve the demand.

With the appointment of the new CNE, the Venezuelan State aspires to continue advancing in the renewal of its electoral schedule in the most immediate way to comply with the AN elections scheduled for this 2020.
