The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, read on Thursday the letter signed by millions of Venezuelans against the interventionist threat from the United States, an activity carried out from the Plaza Bolívar Square in Caracas, after the (signatures collection) journey that began this Wednesday.
Following, the complete letter of President Maduro and the Venezuelan people that will be sent to the White House:
«If I know anything, it’s about peoples, because just like you, I’m a man of the people. I was born and grew up in a Caracas neighborhood, I forged myself in the heat of popular and union struggles in a Venezuela submerged in exclusion and inequality, I am not a tycoon, I am a worker of reason and heart that today I have the privilege of presiding the new Venezuela rooted in a model of inclusive development and social equality that Commander Hugo Chávez forged since 1998, inspired by the Bolivarian legacy
We live today a historical trance, days that will define the future of our countries between war and peace.
I say to the people of the United States: Your representatives of Washington want to bring to your borders the same hatred they sowed in Vietnam, they want to invade and intervene Venezuela, they say, as they said then, in the name of democracy and freedom, but not it’s like that. The history of the usurpation of power in Venezuela is so lacking as were the weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. It is a false case, but one that can have dramatic consequences for our entire region.
Venezuela is a country that, by virtue of its Constitution of 1999, has widely expanded the participatory and protagonist democracy of the people and that, unprecedentedly, is one of the countries with the largest number of electoral processes in the world in the last 20 years.
You may not like our ideology, our appearance, but we exist and we are millions.
I address these words to the people of the United States with the signature of millions of Venezuelans to alert of the seriousness and danger of some sectors in the White House who intend to invade Venezuela, with unpredictable consequences for my country and the entire American region.
President Donald Trump also seeks to disrupt noble dialogue initiatives promoted by Uruguay, Mexico, with the support of Caricom (Caribbean Community), for a peaceful solution and dialogue in favor of Venezuela. We know that for the good of Venezuela we have to sit down and talk, because to refuse to dialogue is to choose the force as a way. Keep in mind the words of John F. Kennedy when he said «never negotiate out of fear, but never be afraid to negotiate».
Will those who do not want to talk have a fear of the truth? We ask ourselves.
The political intolerance towards the Bolivarian, Venezuelan model and the appetites for our immense oil and minerals resources and other great wealth have prompted an international coalition headed by the imperialist government of the United States, to commit the serious insanity of militarily attacking Venezuela under the false excuse of a non-existent humanitarian crisis.
The people of Venezuela have suffered painfully social wounds caused by a criminal commercial and financial blockade, which has been aggravated by the theft and robbery of our financial resources and assets in countries aligned with this insane onslaught.
However, thanks to a new system of social protection, of attention to the most vulnerable sectors, we are proud to remain a country with a high human development index and the lowest inequality in Latin America.
The American people must know that this complex multiform aggression is carried out with total impunity and in clear violation of the Charter of the United Nations, which expressly proscribes the threat or use of force, among other principles and purposes for the sake of peace and the relations of friendship between nations.
We want to continue being business partners of the people of the United States, as we have been throughout our history, the politicians in Washington, however, are willing to send your children to die in an absurd war, instead of respecting the sacred right of the Venezuelan people to self-determination and to the protection of their sovereignty.
Like you, the people of the United States, we Venezuelan men and women are patriots and we will defend what is ours with all the pieces of our soul.
Today Venezuela is united in a single cry: we demand the cessation of the aggression that seeks to suffocate our economy and socially suffocate our people. As well as, the cessation of the serious and dangerous threats of a military intervention against Venezuela.
We appeal to the good soul of American society, victims of their own rulers, to join our call for peace. Let us be one people against belicism and war.
Long Live the Peoples of the Americas!«
Nicolas Maduro Moros
President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
