ANC approves agreement in defense of the rights of Venezuela over Essequibo

The National Constituent Assembly (ANC) approved an agreement for the defense of the legitimate and sovereign rights of Venezuela over the Essequibo.

The document rejects the decision of the secretary general of the United Nations (UN), Antonio Guterres, to send the case to the International Court of Justice, which violates the Geneva Agreement of 1966, which is recognized by our country to resolve the dispute with Guyana.

“Venezuela has no doubt about its legitimate and sovereign rights over the Essequibo territory. In the world, in the times when the empires divided the countries, our Essequibo territory was one of the largest spoils in square kilometers”, said the president of the ANC, Delcy Rodríguez.

In her speech, the constituent emphasized that: “There is a single valid legal instrument that is deposited in the United Nations Organization, which is the Geneva Agreement, valid between both republics; that agreement contemplates peaceful and satisfactory solution mechanisms for Venezuela and Guyana”.
