Ombudsman calls for peace and to cease violent demonstrations

The Ombudsman, Tarek William Saab, on Saturday urged organizers of demonstrations and public events to cease street actions that have caused more than 70 deaths and about 1,400 injuries, as well as millions of damages to private and public assets.

“I am calling on the organizers of demonstrations and public events to prevent the levels of violence in which they end,” he said.

Through his account in the Twitter social network, he emphasized that the mechanism to solve any political difference is dialogue and peace.

Likewise, the Ombudsman made reference to the excess of force by part of the Venezuelan authorities, a reason why he argued for the respect to the laws and the human rights in the country.

He added that the agency will remain vigilant and “assisting petitioners in order to clarify denounced facts and thus establish responsibilities.”

He explained that in the case of arrests of people disturbing the peace of citizenship with violent and terrorist actions, it should be ensured by the rules enshrined in the Organic Code of Criminal Procedure and in the Manual of Guarantees to the Detained.
