The Permanent Representative of Venezuela to the United Nations, Coromoto Godoy Calderón, reported on the delegation’s participation in the closing session of the 80th UN General Assembly, where thr outgoing President, Annalena Baerbock, underscored the urgent need for structural reforms to preserve the organization’s relevance regarding peace and security, as well as the need to redouble efforts to accelerate progress toward the Sustainable Development Goals.
Likewise, she noted that were present for Venezuela at the opening of the 81st General Assembly under the presidency of H.E. Khalilur Rahman of Bangladesh, who highlighted the importance of preparing the UN for the future by prioritizing peace, inclusive multilateralism, and a transparent process for electing the next Secretary-General.
Finally, she highlighted that Secretary-General António Guterres called to acknowledge international challenges and restore confidence in multilateralism, giving the start for a new period of work with the conviction that dialogue and cooperation are the path toward a future of peace and justice.
