President Delcy Rodríguez delivered this Monday funding to 104 condominiums and 1,216 homes in the Chacao municipality, Miranda state (Caracas), with the aim to support the recovery of infrastructure damaged by the double earthquake that struck last June 24:

“We are delivering funding to 104 condominiums, which will receive financing to support the recovery of their buildings, and 1,216 housings that will also receive financing, their owners and occupants, so that we can continue this recovery process,” expressed the Head of State from the El Dorado sector, after inspecting 17 buildings in South Altamira.

During the event, the President highlighted the collaborative work between national and local authorities to protect the citizens. She indicated that the work includes the structural review of buildings and the adaptation of the national regulatory framework.

«We have begun an inspection process. The inspections are necessary because we are entering a phase of changing the seismic resistance standards for construction, considering not only the earthquake of 1967, but also this unique seismic doublet. We have to review everything very thoroughly so that those who return to their homes can do so in safe conditions,» she added.

In this regard, she emphasized that the work committees must adjust the infrastructure protocols. «The construction standards and the recovery standards must take into account the latest seismic phenomenon that so tremendously affected our country.»

The technical assistance process in the sector includes the evaluation of buildings using a traffic light system to classify risk levels as green, yellow, and red, determining the physical actions required in each building.

At the activity were present the head of the Venezuela Renace (Venezuela Reborn) Plan, Jacqueline Faría; the Minister of People’s Power for Transportation, Francisco Garcés; the Sectoral Vice President for Administration and Digital Government, Anabel Pereira; and the Mayor of the Chacao municipality, Gustavo Duque.

Finally, the Head of State urged the population to strengthen a culture of prevention in the face of seismic events. «I call for ecological awareness and for us to also be aware that we are a seismic country. And I say this so that we develop the culture and are always prepared to face situations and difficulties.»
