During his “Con Maduro+” program, the head of State and Government, Nicolás Maduro, denounced the ExxonMobil company for “being behind a revenge operation against the people of Venezuela» and carrying out a «persecution and extermination» against the American Chevron company.
President Maduro pointed out that ExxonMobil has been involved in maneuvers to destabilize the country, recalling: «In the last electoral campaign they supported the candidate of fascism, who then fled the country, cowardly as he is.»
The President explained that the Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez, presented documents that “come from very good sources in the United States,» which show how Chevron has been the victim of a «Machiavellian lobby [with] a lot of investment from ExxonMobil, to destroy its investments in Venezuela.»
During his speech, he explained that this situation “is related to the oil from the undefined sea» in the Venezuelan Atlantic, which ExxonMobil intends to seize:
«So it is a fight that they have there in the United States. And there are many components of this conspiracy against Venezuela, against the economy, against the undefined territorial sea and specifically against the very productive investments that Chevron has today in Venezuela», he reiterated, and highlighted that Chevron has been productive for more than a hundred years in the country.
President Maduro emphasized that despite ExxonMobil’s attempts to cause harm, «Venezuela will continue advancing forward» and predicted growth in all aspects of the economy this year.
In this regard, he reiterated his goal of breaking the dependence on hydrocarbon resources, seeking to have the economy “produce all goods, services and consumer products» without depending on oil.
He also indicated that ExxonMobil’s efforts have only resulted in harm to themselves, and called on the people to be aware of who the real enemies are:
«ExxonMobil is a company that is an enemy of the history of Venezuela and of the people of Venezuela and its right to a future, its right to happiness,» he said.
