Presidential elections 2024 will be held as established by the Venezuelan Constitution

In order to strengthen democracy and guarantee compliance with the laws of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and what is established in its Constitution, the National Assembly (AN) evaluates, together with the various sectors of the political and social life of the country, the possible calendar for the 2024 presidential election, which will be delivered to the Electoral Branch for consideration. This national mechanism shows that the method for understanding is dialogue and agreement, emphasized the head of state, Nicolás Maduro.

The consultation carried out by the National Assembly – around the 2024 Presidential Elections – started on the right foot, accompanied by proposals for dates, organization and logistics,” said President Maduro through his social networks, in relation to the dialogue called by the Legislative Power to articulate among all the actors of national life a proposal for the proper development of the upcoming elections, in accordance with what is determined in the Magna Carta.

Article 230 of the Constitution establishes that once the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela has completed six years of governance, the National Electoral Council (CNE) will call Venezuelans to the electoral event to elect the candidate who will lead the country in the next period, in exercise of their right to universal, direct and secret voting, in accordance with the law.

This competence of the CNE is guided by article 33 of the Organic Law of the Electoral Power, which stipulates that this is the electoral governing body responsible for making the call and setting the date for the election of positions of popular representation, referendums and other popular queries.

In this sense, the head of state stated that “this 2024 is due for presidential elections, whoever may give a tantrum, as mandated by our Constitution of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.”
