“If we have achieved anything in this battle, it is to consolidate and build a higher level of national unity,” said the president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, while addressing the people who mobilized in the streets of Caracas. regarding the Day of Loyalty and Love to Commander Chávez and in support of the Action Plan in defense of the Essequibo territory:
“After 150 years, an awareness of justice, equality, independence, and exercised sovereignty has been awakened. The people exercised their sovereignty and said “Yes” five times, right in the middle street,” he stated from Miraflores Palace, in Caracas.
The head of state pointed out that the arrogance of the empire did not allowed it to see the determination of the Venezuelan people to protect their sovereignty, which was evidenced by the massive participation in the consultative referendum on December 3:
“They have underestimated me, they have underestimated you, the people, and they believed in the empire, in the oligarchy, (they thought) that this was a piece of cake; They did not know what we have, because of the sacred fire of the Homeland, because of the strength of the liberators of America,” he added.
He recalled that the country has emerged successfully from each of the tests it has faced, while asserting that – currently – Venezuela is moving towards a prosperous future based on five consensuses: the first aimed at “the construction of a new economic model, one that produces wealth for the country, in full and complete economic recovery”; the second aimed at “condemnation of sanctions, blockade, aggression and imperialist threats”; and the third corresponds to peace and, at this point, he called on the People’s Power and the recently created Popular Units for Peace (UPAZ) to be alert against those who still bet on violence.
