Vice President Delcy Rodríguez: Sooner or later the countries of the North Atlantic will come through the Amazon

The Executive Vice President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Delcy Rodríguez, warned this Tuesday about the intention of the countries that make up the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to seek to commercialize the biodiversity of the Amazon basin.

The statements were made by her during her participation in the 4th Amazon Summit, which is held until this Wednesday in Belém, capital of the state of Pará, in Brazil:

We have to be frank. There are serious threats that we cannot avoid and that we have to address. The way is not to decentralize the states but to strengthen the capacities of the States and not hand them over to NGOs”, said the vice president.

In this sense, the Vice President of the Republic warned —in addition— about the military bases that are in the nations that make up the Amazon Cooperation Treaty Organization (OTCA), and asserted that sooner or later the proposals and actions of the organization will not respond to the interests of NATO:

“Sooner or later, or rather sooner than later, there will come a moment where the interests of this organization will be in opposition to the interests of the North Atlantic. How can there be military bases in our countries, when we know that strategically the countries of the North Atlantic have their sights set on the biodiversity of this territory, which represents 40% of the tropical forests of the entire planet”, emphasized Rodríguez.

The organization must be at the service of the political, economic and territorial sovereignty of the countries that make up OTCA,” she added.

During her speech, the Executive Vice President denounced the attack of the West against the nations of the region, many of them that are part of the Amazon basin.

Similarly, she presented the specific action plan proposed by President Nicolás Maduro for the rescue and defense of the region, which contains nine lines of action.
