The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, instructed this Wednesday to transfer all the warehouse and furniture assets of the Mercado de Alimentos (MERCAL) Food Markets, in order to start a new stage and strengthen production in the country.
In statements broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión, the Venezuelan head of state specifically instructed the Minister for Food, Carlos Leal Tellerías, and the Minister for Industries and National Production, Hipólito Abreu, to coordinate the actions:
“Only the people build a response. Precisely, we must speed up. Minister Leal Tellerías, (proceed to) the transfer of assets and warehouses to the Communal Councils, so that they can create their popular distribution and supplies in this new stage”, said the National President.
“I have given the order to Minister Hipólito Abreu, so that this is fulfilled, of transferring everything that must be transferred to the people’s power, including industrial plants, to convert them into communal productive experiences”, he added.
In this sense, he recalled that when Abastos Mercal food markets were created, the State disbursed 7,000 million dollars only for their supply, for this reason, now it is important that the people can articulate the enterprise and strengthen the productive economy:
“In this phase, what should we do? Produce with the people, articulate the enterprise and deliver the assets to the people’s power, so that it is put at the service of the people, people by people,” he asserted.
As part of this initiative, this Wednesday, the assets of Mercal in El Valle (Caracas) were transferred to the people’s power of the commune.
With this transfer, as detailed one of the members of the community, it will be possible to strengthen the People by People Goes to School plan, in order to be able to connect the countryside with the schools; as well as consolidating the articulation that has been achieved with other communes.
