The pernicious use of digital networks has contributed to the erosion and breakdown of democratic processes, as well as to the instability of the ALBA-TCP member countries.
The denounce was made by Sacha Llorenti, executive secretary of the regional alliance, during the international forum: «Digital Interference: The role of social networks as a weapon of destabilization”.
«The networks are not only platforms for dissemination, they can influence the conduct and behavior of people, irritating or misinforming them”, said Llorenti, who considers that the coup d’etat in Bolivia and the destabilization in Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua cannot be understood without analyzing the role of networks.
Mexican historian Christian Nader recalled that although the networks emerged as a panacea for free information, behind them lie interests linked to the great powers:
«They are a kind of image washer for dark American, European and multinational interests”, Nader said.
Venezuelan sociologist Franco Vielma and Cuban journalist Rosa Elizalde described how the networks operate in their countries, and denounced that these are channels of manipulation and violence.
Bolivian sociologist Khantuta Muruchi and Nicaraguan journalist, William Grigsby consider that the same digital platforms should form walls of resistance against coups d’etat.
