President Maduro supports proposal to hold elections for governors and mayors together

The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro reported this Wednesday that he supports the proposal of sectors of the opposition to hold elections for governors and mayors together, with a new National Electoral Council (CNE):

There is a proposal to hold the elections for governors and mayors together, and next year 2022, to hold the elections for the Legislative and Municipal Councils, which would merit the Reform of the Electoral Law, which is being debated in the Dialogue Commission of the National Assembly (AN)”, he said.

In a press conference with national and international media, the Head of State declared that he fully agreed with the unified election of governors and mayors, but the decision is in the hands of the Legislative Power and the CNE.

“Renewal is very important because the governors and mayors are the regional power and the local power that are closer to the people,” he said.

He announced that the Great Patriotic Pole (GPP) and the opposition sector are preparing the battles and proposals.

“95% of the opposition leaders of states and municipalities want to run and claim the right to be mayors and governors, and they believe they can win, and they could, some states and some municipalities,” he added.

President Maduro called on the Venezuelan opposition to achieve a great National Agreement framed in the Dialogue and Peace board of the AN, for inclusive and inclusive, participatory and leading elections of governors and mayors.

My call is to act in the best and greatest national and international electoral guarantees, for an electoral process that is a party, where governors and mayors are elected with the vote of the people and popular sovereignty. Venezuela continues its course, continues its march”, he concluded.
