CNE: Parliamentary Elections will be held on December 6, 2020

The president of the National Electoral Council (CNE), Indira Alfonzo Izaguirre, announced this Wednesday after establishing the Special Rules for Parliamentary Elections for the 2021-2026 term; that it was unanimously approved the Electoral Schedule and the call to the process where the deputies to the National Assembly will be elected.

“The national and international situation is mainstreamed by the COVID-19 pandemic, for this reason, we keep working on adapting the processes adjusted to the generation of biosafety conditions and health preservation of those who participate in the electoral dynamic, thus guaranteeing the full participation of Venezuelans”, expressed the highest electoral authority.

She reported that the electoral process was set for December 6, 2020 where, based on the document constituting the approved electoral schedule, a set of fundamental phases were established.

On the dates between Monday, July 13 and Sunday, July 26, 2020, will take place a special Electoral Registration journey; the selection of the members of the subordinate electoral organisms will take place on Thursday, July 23; while the presentation of applications will be made from Monday, August 10 to Wednesday, August 19, 2020.

The realization of 15 audits that will guarantee a transparent and reliable election will take place from Friday, August 14, 2020 to Thursday, January 21, 2021. The electoral drill is set for Sunday, October 11, 2020; the electoral fair from Monday, November 2 to Monday, November 30, 2020 and the electoral campaign from Saturday, November 21 until Saturday, December 5, 2020.

Alfonzo recalled that for the Parliamentary Elections for the 2021-2026 term, it was approved the formula where a 52 percent will be elected proportionally and a 48 percent nominally; in addition to increasing the number of positions to be elected by 66 percent, passing from 167 deputies to 277.

In the approved regulations, the 87 electoral constituencies applied in the last elections for the National Assembly in 2015 are preserved.

“It is time for the sovereign freedom of the people to express itself through suffrage, it is time to choose”, she said.
