President Maduro calls for increased security measures to prevent the spread of Covid-19

The President of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro Moros, urged to redouble security measures for health professionals against the increase in positive cases due to the Covid-19 pandemic, mostly coming from abroad.

In statements to the media, the head of state explained that when attending these new infections, three doctors and a nurse tested positive for Covid-19.

«The doctor men and women, nurses, the Cuban mission and the Barrio Adentro Health Mission, we are going to redouble all the details of the prevention and security measures so that there are no health personnel in the country who are at risk and get in contagion», he requested.

In this regard, the Venezuelan president pointed out that in the face of the early and irresponsible reopening of activities and the inertia of some governments that still underestimate Covid-19, the world is experiencing dangerous outbreaks of the pandemic:

«We have a serious situation on the border of Apure state with Colombia, through this border are entering not only Venezuelans who were on the Colombian side,s but also compatriots who come from Chile, Peru and Ecuador», he said.

Earlier, the Executive Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez, reported 37 new positive Covid-19 cases that, added to the 45 detected yesterday, placed in the country a total of 541 people infected with coronavirus.

Of the total number of confirmed cases this Sunday, 34 are imported, of which 19 come from Peru, from the Vuelta a la Patria (Return to the Homeland) flights Plan, and 14 coming from Colombia, while four are community infections.

However, the National President recalled that all Venezuelans who have returned to the country are serving the quarantine period and receiving medical treatment following the protocols established by the World Health Organization (WHO).

He stressed that in the next 48 hours work will be installed work tables to coordinate a renewed operation of the economic and social support that they will give to small, medium and large merchants; entrepreneurs and businessmen in this new stage of quarantine by Covid-19.
