President Maduro to The Washington Post: The US made mistakes in its policy towards Venezuela

The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro Moros, said that in the United States has been made a false account about the Venezuelan reality that has made them make mistakes in their policy towards Venezuela.

During an interview given to journalist Anthony Faiola of the American newspaper The Washington Post, the head of state said to have the strongest political will to defend the country, and for that reason “nobody from abroad will impose a president on us, nor a government through coups d’etat (…) Venezuela has an institutional life, a democratic life that will continue its course in peace”.

«Mike Pompeo has failed in Venezuela and is responsible for the failure of Donald Trump in his policy towards our country (…) The reality is that in Venezuela there is a constitutional state of law, with established powers, and there is a president elected by the popular vote» he explained.

During the interview, the Venezuelan president explained how the nation has been the victim of an international, political, commercial and financial persecution promoted by the US government.

«The White House has taken a set of harmful policies for the Venezuelan people and it is not easy for the United States government to go backwards (…) but we have the arguments and the underlying reasons for, in a negotiation, to convince to regularize our relationships and go to a kind of win-win formula».

Venezuela has been taking steps to get closer to the Trump administration, said the President, being optimistic that talks will begin at some point to regularize relations between Caracas and Washington.

Venezuela is open to US investments:

«Venezuela is open to US investments, and ready to receive all investors in the areas of oil, mining, tourism and telecommunications», said the dignitary during the interview.

He stressed that the United States and Venezuela are geographically located in the same region, and for this reason «we are obliged, for the future years and centuries, to have relationships of respect, of communication, and not confrontation».

He said he had multiple meetings with investors of American origin in which significant agreements have been reached, however the White House has blocked the opportunity to do business with Venezuela.

President Maduro is willing to start talks with Trump:

During the interview the Venezuelan leader said he agreed with a direct negotiation with the government of Donald Trump, but maintaining the distances between the national and bilateral issues.

“One thing is the Venezuelan national dialogue board, sovereign with the internal opposition political factors that must have its rhythm, its agenda, and its agreements; and another thing is the bilateral relationship between the US government of President Donald Trump and the Bolivarian Government of Venezuela», he said.
