President Maduro commemorated 20 years of the 1999 ANC election


The president of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, Nicolás Maduro, commemorated this Thursday the 20 years of the election of the National Constituent Assembly (ANC) in 1999.
“Today we turn 20 years that the people gave Commander Chávez a huge victory with the vote. Everything that we have been, everything that we are and everything that we will be has come from popular sovereignty, has always come from the popular vote”, said the head of state from the National Pantheon, located in Caracas, where was commemorated the Bicentennial of the Vargas Swamp Battle.
Through a presidential decree a consultative referendum was convened in which the people voted in favor of an ANC to constitute a legal system that included aspects such as the concepts of social and participatory democracy, in addition to the protagonist; the conformation of the 5h Republic and the denomination of the nation as Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, among others.
This referendum was organized on the basis of article 181 of the Organic Law of Suffrage and Political Participation, which registered a victory of the Yes option with 3,360,666 votes, 87.75% of the votes, while the No option got 300,233, 7.26% of the votes.
