Russia celebrates contacts between Government and Venezuelan opposition

The Russian government held on Monday the resumption of talks between representatives of the Government of Venezuela and the opposition in Oslo, Norway:
«Moscow welcomes the announcement about the continuation of contacts between the Government and the opposition of Venezuela in Oslo,» pointed out the Russian Foreign Ministry in a communiqué.
In the text, the Foreign Ministry indicated that Russia is willing to contribute to the dialogue between the Venezuelan political representatives:
«On our side we are willing to provide the necessary assistance to this dialogue if the participants so request», added the communiqué.
In the same text, the Russian Ministry reiterated its rejection and condemnation of any plan of a foreign military intervention in Venezuela.
The Chancellory urged all countries to support the beginning of the political process in the Latin American country:
«We urge all countries involved in the Venezuelan situation to support the beginning of the political process through dialogue between the main political forces of that nation without ultimatums to the leadership of Venezuela», he said.
Last week the delegations of the Government and the Venezuelan opposition held the first exploratory meeting in Oslo.
The contacts held in Norway marked the first rapprochement between representatives of the Government and the opposition since the failed coup of April 30.
The political situation in Venezuela worsened after the head of the National Assembly (in contempt since 2016), Juan Guaidó, on January 23, proclaimed himself as the «president in charge» of the country.
Russia, China, Cuba, Bolivia, Iran and Turkey, among other nations, continue to support the constitutional order and the government of President Nicolás Maduro.
