Cabello on detention of Edgar Zambrano: Justice is working

Diosdado Cabello, the first vice-president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (PSUV), confirmed on Thursday the arrest of former deputy Edgar Zambrano, one of the leaders of the military coup attempt on April 30, to whom, along with other ex-deputies, the National Constituent Assembly (ANC) has acquiesced parliamentary immunity.
“We are happy because justice is working” he said regarding Zambrano’s arrest, recalling that “the times of justice are different, nobody can despair. Cold head, nerves of steel”.
On the procedure in which the parliamentarian was arrested, he said that when he was approached by Sebin officials he refused to get off his vehicle, so they had to look for a tow to take the car, with Zambrano inside.
During the swearing in of the regional leadership of the PSUV in Monagas, Cabello criticized the position assumed by some governments after the former deputy was arrested, asking: “What would have happened if what happened here on April 30 had happened in the United States? There would not have been one to tell the story and the world would be applauding. If it had happened in Colombia they would have been bitten into pieces”.
He also asked: “Would the United States forgive someone who had risen up in arms? The United States lives by arms, hatred and death. They accuse us of any atrocity and everything is dedicated to Venezuela as if they did not have any problem”.
In response to the threat from the government of Washington, the first vice president of the PSUV said that “there are still others to be held responsible for these acts of violence.”
