Chancellor held meeting with diplomatic corps to address assassination attempt

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Jorge Arreaza, led a meeting with the diplomatic corps accredited in the country to address the attempted assassination perpetrated this Saturday against the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro.

In the meeting broadcast by VTV, he explained to the diplomats that there are six detainees directly involved in the assassination attempt, one of them was involved in the events of Fort Paramacay last year:

“The detainees are already declaring, our security forces have been deployed in various parts of the city to locate the rest of those responsible”, he said.

Arreaza said that the investigations have thrown Florida and Bogota as focal points of the conspiracy: “It has become evident with the statements issued by opposition figures”.

“Where are those opposition leaders who travel the world asking for sanctions? Where is the ex-prosecutor of the Republic? In Colombia, it is impossible not to doubt, Bogotá is the center of the conspiracy”, he said.

He pointed out that right when the Bolivarian Government is about to implement a new economic scheme in the country, which will overcome the attacks of which the Venezuelan economy has been a victim during the presidential term of Nicolás Maduro, takes place the failed attempt of assassination:

“The aggression against Venezuela has been atrocious, the blockade that exists, the persecution of the Venezuelan finances has been cruel. A few days of August 20, a flexible point for the Venezuelan economy occurs this terrorist act against Pres. Nicolás Maduro and his people”, he detailed.

The Venezuelan Foreign Minister demanded respect from the Venezuelan authorities, and asked the diplomats to go to their governments to expose the truth of Venezuela:

“Enough already of imperialism acting, enough of political intolerance. We demand respect from the US Government, let’s seek dialogue and respect”, he exclaimed, while stressing that Venezuela respects all the governments of the world and demands the same respect for the sovereignty of the country.
