The Government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela categorically rejects the terms of the communiqué of the office of the High Representative for Foreign Policy of the European Union, Federica Mogherini, regarding the Presidential elections and of the State Legislative Councils, successfully carried out last May 20, 2018, in which 68% of Venezuelan voters deposited their trust in President Nicolás Maduro Moros, in a sovereign and courageous act, despite systematic threats and unprecedented external pressures

It is worth remembering that the High Representative of the European Union received an invitation in advance from the President of the National Electoral Council, Tibisay Lucena, to have the participation of an EU Electoral Observation Mission during the electoral process of May 20. However, by not accepting the invitation, they preferred to incur in induced prejudices and issue unfounded accusations, which in no way dispel the reliability that they have attributed to the Venezuelan elections, the more than 300 guests of the National Accompaniment Program of the National Electoral Council, from 56 countries, as well as representatives of various International Organizations.

The Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela hopes that the European Union will maintain the indispensable attachment to International Law, the principle of non-intervention in internal affairs, respect for sovereignty and self-determination of the Peoples, while inviting countries and institutions to develop a respectful and comprehensive cooperation relationship with Venezuela, the Bolivarian Government and its institutions.
