The rector of the National Electoral Council, Tania D’Amelio, clarified on Thursday that there are more than 12 organizations with political purposes qualified to run their candidates for the presidential elections on April 22.
During an interview in the «Encendidos» (Turned On) program, broadcast by Venezolana de Televisión, the official criticized the fact that it is intended to make people believe that the opposition is represented by only four political parties, when there are more right-wing political organizations legally constituted, citing the case of the Copei, AD, IPP, MAS, UPP 89 and Nuvipa parties.
«Here, in addition to the Patriotic Pole, there are also other organizations that are of opposition and that can postulate, that do not accompany and have not accompanied the candidates of the Patriotic Pole. We emphasize this because sometimes it would seem that since Voluntad Popular nor Primero Justicia are present, already in Venezuela there is no other (opposition) organization with political ends that can postulate».
D’Amelio recalled that in the past municipal elections, the Independientes Por El Progreso (IPP) party nominated candidates from the Primero Justicia and Voluntad Popular parties.
She also noted that the political organizations that will participate in the nomination process will win the right to participate in more than 15 audits of the electoral system: «Because those who did not apply have nothing to do in the audits».
