The Port of La Guaira has recovered 92% of its capacity, after the damages sustained during the seismic event of last June 24, as stated Francisco Garcés, Minister of People’s Power for Transportation, in an interview with Venezolana de Televisión (VTV).
«Fortunately, the team we have at La Guaira—a highly powerful and professional team—was able to make the necessary adjustments to get the equipment running again; some cranes that had derailed, others that were out of service are now back online,» Garcés noted.
The head of the Transportation Office reported that the Port of Puerto Cabello suffered no significant damage from the earthquake; he further indicated that operations continued and even increased.
During his intervention, he noted a slight decrease in the number of vessels received, which went from 1,578 in 2025 to 1,447 in 2026. However, the containers arriving in 2026 are larger and represent a higher total volume, as fewer ships have arrived but those that did had greater capacity.
