Arrives in Venezuela senior UN humanitarian affairs offficer due to seismic emergency

The Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), Tom Fletcher, arrived this Tuesday in Venezuela for a work visit following the recent earthquakes registered in the country.

The welcoming of the senior official was held at the «Arturo Michelena» International Airport in Valencia, Carabobo State, by the Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs for the Caribbean, Raúl Li Causi, accompanied by the head of OCHA in Venezuela, Vanessa May.

Representing the Bolivarian Government of President in Charge Delcy Rodríguez, the Venezuelan diplomat welcomed Fletcher and thanked him for his presence in the country amidst the tragedy.

He detailed that the adjourned Secretary-General will maintain a coordinated work agenda with the National Executive to review the actions to be taken in response to the seismic emergency:

«I have reiterated the extraordinary work and coordination we have had since day one with all the United Nations agencies, and we have also made all our institutions and all our teamwork available for what is to come and for these new phases we are facing after the earthquake,» referred Li Causi.
