Venezuela re-enters the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) with full rights, as announced Jorge Rodríguez, President of the National Assembly (AN), via social media.
“We were given the excellent news that today Venezuela has been reinstated to the Inter-Parliamentary Union with full rights,” expressed Rodríguez.
The decision was announced during the 153rd Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU, which is being held from October 5 to 9 in Tanzania, with the participation of the AN’s Second Vice President, Grecia Colmenares, and deputies José Gregorio Correa and Saúl Ortega.
The AN President noted that the process began on September 17, when he held a conversation with IPU Secretary General Anda Filip, in order to lay the groundwork for Venezuela’s return to the organization.
Rodríguez highlighted that the IPU is the most important inter-parliamentary forum for parliamentary diplomacy, and noted that the Venezuelan Parliament returns to this space “to make its voice heard before the parliaments of the world.”
