The National Assembly unanimously appointed the deputies who will make up the Preliminary Commission of the Judicial Nominations Evaluation Committee; the commission is set to be installed this Wednesday and will be chaired by Deputy Giuseppe Alessandrello (PSUV/La Guaira).
The vice-chairmanship of this body will be assumed by Deputy Pablo Pérez (UNT/National), announced the President of the Assembly, Deputy Jorge Rodríguez (PSUV/National), during Tuesday’s ordinary session. The commission will be composed of deputies Gloria Castillo (PSUV/Guayana Esequiba), María Gabriela Vega (PSUV/La Guaira), and Liliana González (PSUV/Miranda), as well as deputies Fernando Bastidas (PSUV/Falcón), Carlos Mogollón (PSUV/Capital District), José Óscar Villarroel (PSUV/Carabobo), Jonathan García (PSUV/Táchira), Luis Florido (UNT/Lara), and Félix Freites (FV/National).
The appointment of the Preliminary Commission is in accordance with Article 42 of the Internal and Debate Regulations (RIDAN) of the National Assembly (AN), which governs the designation of special commissions to study and address specific matters.
The board of directors remains the same as that of the standing committees. Likewise, the President of the AN, together with the board of directors, will appoint the commission’s members and designate vice-chairs from among them. The same will operate for a period of 30 consecutive days.
For his part, the President of Parliament, Deputy Jorge Rodríguez (PSUV/National), stated that after the reform of the Organic Law of the Supreme Tribunal of Justice (TSJ), the appointment process had already been initiated prior to the seismic doublet of June 24 this year, and in the context of dialogue processes involving all political, social, and economic stances in the country.
«We have reset the kilometers count to zero, and today it corresponds the appointing of the Preliminary Commission to the board of directors of the AN, so it will proceed to meet the deadlines and objectives established in the Constitution for the appointment of the Nominations Committee and, subsequently, bring to the Plenary Session the relevant reports for the appointment of TSJ magistrates,» Rodríguez specified.
