During her address to the United Nations General Assembly (UN), President Delcy Rodríguez reaffirmed her will to build international relations based on cooperation. In this regard, the national dignitary welcomed the willingness of the United States to resume diplomatic ties.
«That is why today Venezuela aspires—with the United States, with its neighbors, and with all countries across our continent and the international community—to rebuild and sustain relations based on cooperation, respect, and equality. Here at the 81st UN General Assembly, I wish to thank President Donald Trump and his administration for their willingness to resume the path of diplomatic relations and cooperation with Venezuela,» expressed the Head of State, who also emphasized that serious efforts are currently underway to resolve political differences through respectful dialogue.
The Dignitary reported that both countries are seeking to pave the way for energy relations, the promotion of security, a joint fight against transnational crime, and economic cooperation. In her speech, she emphasized that this diplomatic process would benefit the development of both nations and the entire continent.
«The last time when two presidents of Venezuela and the United States met was in 2009. Today, we are working seriously to resolve existing differences through dialogue, but primarily to pave the way for energy relations, the promotion of security, the joint fight against transnational crime, and economic cooperation for the benefit of both peoples and our continent.»
Likewise, Rodríguez used the multilateral platform to express her gratitude to the international community for its support following the double earthquake that struck the country. «I want to thank all the countries of the Americas, Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Middle East, as well as the entire United Nations system, for showing solidarity with the Venezuelan people during the darkest hours caused by the double earthquake. There was felt the true founding spirit of this organization,» she noted.
Finally, the president highlighted the start of a process of democratic transformation in Venezuela, driven by the State’s own institutions. «Today, I come before this assembly as another daughter of Venezuela to present the aspirations of a country seeking to forge its own destiny following political conflicts and an economic blockade that impacted its model of development, inclusion, and equality. For too long, we were a country divided by entrenched factions, where the color of a party flag mattered more than the shared identity that all of us, Venezuelan men and women, share in common. This chapter must close to usher in a new political era grounded in truth, justice, and the ability to look forward together and find, through respectful political dialogue, a genuine space to resolve our differences as Venezuelans while always striving for a horizon that benefits the nation.»
